The End of the World?

Rutgers, the state university of New Jersey, beat Louisville (#3) 28-25. Last Knight (pun) they had a reason to protect their football goalposts with a ring of men in yellow jackets and by Monday they'll have a top 10 football team. I'm speachless - man alive, what a game!

Sacha Baron Cohen has the top grossing movie in America (not just the number 1 comedy - the number 1 movie overall). In a case of high comedy life imitating high comedy art, Mr. Cohen is being sued by 2 fraternity members who feel as though they were cast in a disparaging light in the film. These lack-wits got drunk, made some typical-frat-guy racist and sexist comments on camera and probably thought they would earn BMOC status at their backwater South Carolina school because of it. Instead they're being vilified and want to be financially compensated for it. Sometimes I hate lawyers, too.

Doogie Howser is gay. Apparently, the "outing" of gay celebrities is now appropriately referred to as "lancing" - a term coined after the outing of 'N Sync's own Lance Bass. I don't know how to squeeze all of the comedic juice out of this latest celebrity lancing so, recognizing my limitations, I'm going to tag out and let BT do some work in the squared-circle.

I really don't have much comedy to add to the Doogie story. I used to love that show, especially the computer diary he'd write at the end of each episode. In fact ... I feel a bit like Doogie right now watching this comment forming on the screen. Exciting.

I always liked Neil Patrick Harris. He seems like a really smart and witty guy. More importantly, he seems aware of the hand he was dealt as a child star. His willingness to be self-depracating (see: Harold and Kumar) is always funny. Plus, he just seems like a good guy, not unlike most gay men that I've met. Which brings me to my real point - on Tuesday, the redneck hick pig farmers in Idaho, Virginia, Tennessee and South Carolina voted in favor of banning same-sex marriages. Can someone please explain why? What's the point? Where's the threat? How will these people be harmed by gay marriage? I just don't understand the need for such hatred. Let people live their lives and be happy. So I commend Mr. Harris for coming out and being proud of who he is. In this hate-filled country, it takes real courage to do that.

Just kidding. He's totally an ankle-grabber.

Harris is doing his best work yet on the surprisingly funny sitcom "How I Met Your Mother." I wonder if his character as a womanizer is still going to be believable.

Also, if you have any appreciation of the Rutgers win, you'll enjoy this video from the stands. It is of the first (missed) field goal, celebration (because their fans thought it was good), relief when there was a penalty called, dead silence for the second attempt (punctuated by one Rutgers student, who is clearly attending the Rutgers School of Rocket Science, imploring the fellow fans not to be silent, as that will put too much pressure on the kicker), followed by pandemonium when the kick actually makes it through....

Don't be silent, yo!

Not to get too far ahead of ouselves or anything, but does anyone think that Rutgers should get a shot at the championship if they manage to run the table?
